USAID ERA has a newmandate to facilitate the export of grains from Ukraine to the global market and improve the capacity of Ukraine’scargo trade through western border routes. The blockade of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports deprived Ukrainian exporters of marine trade routes, threatening to strikecommercial vessels in the Black Sea headed to and from Ukrainian waters. Deprived of maritime trade, Ukraine’sexports reoriented to overland modes of transportation, rail, and trucks. This is creating pressure on border crossingpoints (BCP) and adjacent infrastructure. To facilitate the flow of commodities from Ukraine to the global market through theEU borders and to prepare for greater integration with the European Union (EU), ERA is working with State Customsto upgrade border crossing points and adjacent infrastructure.B.
